2015 6200 Outlaw Steering Rule and Tech

I would like to know what the other Outlaw pullers think about allowing full hydraulic steering in the Outlaw class.  When I say "full hydraulic steering" I am referring to to running an orbital valve and ram.  Most all of us already run the 12v pump.  I my opinion this would take the pressure off of the frame rail and allow more consistent/safer control of the trucks,  I have spoken with one other rules committee member and multiple other points pullers in the class.  We are all in agreement that it would only make the trucks safer and easier to control.  If a puller chose not to switch over to full hydraulic, he/she would be at no disadvantage to stay competitive in the class.

I would also like to bring up tech in the class. I see the 6200 Outlaw as being a competitive class with a decent truck count in 2014.  I would love to see this class grow and continue to put on good shows in a serious level paying field environment. How can we tech the Outlaw class and keep them in line with the rules.  I am not sure how the 6400 class keeps all the trucks in check.  Is the tech provided by Dragon?  Does the class police itself?  Do the trucks go through a real tech session before the season and then its protest only?

Just looking for some guidance and opinions on how to keep this class headed in a right direction for the future.

Full hydraulic is the best way to go. Much safer and easier to drive.

I also agree that having the full hrdraulic steering is the best way to go. Like Temple said it would make the trucks easier and safer to drive with the wheel speed our trucks are running now. Also like Brandon said we should have a tech person, or some method of checking the trucks to keep the rules in order. I feel that the tech person should be someone not involved in the class in anyway (puller/family members). Would like hear something back soon on the steering, so we can start working on the trucks. Thanks

A single unbiased tech person is an option.  Another option could be a group of points pullers from the class going over each points truck with the puller being inspected as the chance arises.  Any issues could be brought up and addressed at that point within the group.  Possibly at test and tune (for those in the class that show) or at the first hook of the season.

Those diesel guys sure know how to get the pot stirred pretty quick.  Maybe if I mentioned ODL in the thread we could get some people jumping in..............

    I don't see where it would be a deal breaker... I wouldn't have a problem with it.-A

Don't have a problem with the steering change.  The tech idea is a good idea, but would take some work to figure it all out.  The questions that have come up In the past when this issue has been discussed are: who it would be, would they be paid and how much, where would the money come from, would each class have its own and etc.  One way to look at it is why have rules if you don't have someone (impartial) enforcing them.

I am not in favor of changing any rules that would be adding or deleting... We set up new rules last year for the 6200 Outlaw class and already wanting to change them.  I have had several phone calls wanting to change this or that... I think we need to leave them the same... With the hydraulic steering this can open up another can of worms...  HEY I GOT A GREAT IDEA... If we are looking to do this we do have a 6400 class you would fit right in... We were trying to keep the 6200 Outlaw class so beginners can start here with DMP, I think if we keep changing the rules this isn't going to help the association to grow.  Just my .02 cents worth... And how does this work??? Does the rule committee come up with new rules and establish them or does the association???

I will get in touch with Will and get him to change the rules page for the outlaw class regarding the hydraulic steering.

Let me start by saying the full hydraulic steering change was not my idea. I was contacted by another puller in the class and was asked if I would bring it up since I was a committee member.  And yes, I do think allowing it is a good idea.   I contacted the other rules committee members (David Hall, Brian Allen, and Aaron Sponagle) as well as speaking with numerous pullers in the class (including you Grumpy) and Temple and nobody was against the change.  Last year was the first year the class ran as and organized points class.  Who knew that the trucks would immediately jump to the 900hp-1000hp+ mark?  (Not exactly a starter class.)  If anybody knew these trucks would jump to the power levels we are currently at (in the first season) I believe the steering would have been brought up at last years meeting.  This change will not take any Outlaw puller out of competitive competition if he/she decides not to take advantage of the change.  The rules committee makes the rules changes based on input from the other pullers in the class.  I spoke with Temple about the process last week.  We are not talking about modifying rules to make more power or to give an advantage to anybody.  This is about allowing a safer and more controllable steering OPTION if the puller chooses.  I think our time would be more efficiently spent discussing ideas on how to tech and enforce the rules........ In my opinion

So, where does this leave us with the steering?

Aaron did respond..look above warpath "4speed"..Our pullers in the 6200 class asked about the full hydro steering and I told them that we should stay alined with the outlaw rules because if we allow it and dragon does not, then there could be a conflict when we run together and vice versa. -A

I actually just edited my post.  Didn't realize Aaron was "4speed".  Got it all cleared up now.  Sorry about that Aaron.

This should be all cleared up soon.  Just want us all to be on the same page early so we can make our changes and be ready for 2015!
