Does anyone feel that the rules meeting last night went a little extreme on turbo rule ? I have done my home work last night and today and i have talked to three turbo specilist today and they all agree with me that the s300 and the hx40 will totally out perform the 3lm hands down and yes with more air flow through the same 2.4 inlet some engines could gain as much as 200 to 300 horsepower! Is this really what we were looking to do? I thought we were going to try to get everyone more competitive and closer to gather? Shouldn't we rethink this and maybe have another meeting and vote? just my suggestion!

I can remember at one of the rules meetings when a lot of the class thought everything should be the same.  At this meeting is where the A pumps got voted it on.  Some people said that if the John Deere had an A pump, then everyone should because that would make it fair.  Also there was a discussion on tires.  One puller had a different size tire and that wasn't fair, so we made it so that everyone had to  run the same size tire. Reason being it would make everything equal.  Next we voted to allow top cut tire into the class.  The reason being was because some pullers could find tires that were worn down and some could not.  So that was done to make it so no one had an advantage. Most of the pullers voted for these things that I mention because they all passed and were the rules for the class.  Lets think about this.  The reason a majority of the pullers voted for these things was because it wasn't fair for someone to have something that someone else different.  It was in the pullers words "KEEPING IT FAIR".  So I ask you what would be more fair than everyone running the same turbo.

The only question we need to ask ourselves is do we want to be able to make more horsepower and spread the class out more or hold the performance level and all go to the same turbo? I would love to see the speed limit gone and go to box stock turbo and tighten up the class it is cheaper to build a competitive tractor! And with more power we need to reconsider the safety rules and side shields. If we run rules as stated Sunday we would be running a limited super farm class and the only limits are speed and cubic inches and I'm ok with that if that was what everyone was wanting to do I feel a lot of people didn't realize what they just did to themselves.

We really question if everyone did realize what they have done to this class. With a 3LM or S300 or even HX50 w/a 2" 2.33 plug we could totally eliminate speed limit & everybody would be still in the same playing field, but not with a charger of any size w/just a 2.4 open inlet. With that, we would agree with Bleed Green. OR do we need to let John and Temple make the rules and we live by them? AND is that what you really want (to break the class up)?

I did not attend this meeting, so I Will just express my thoughts. I personally like the s300 and agree with Swope on his idea of no speed limit and a s300.On the other hand if the speed limit is 18.5 I don't see where a big charger Will be an advantage. If anything it Will go the other way. Doug if i'm pretty sure if you talk to the same turbo specialist they Will tell you the 3lm isn't a good turbo and the life expectancy is horrible.I Will be happy with anything but a 3lm.

These are good comments, I think most people went to the meeting hoping to eliminate the speed limit. There was discussion on this board about this prior to the meeting. The only fair way to do this is to make sure the tractors are equipped relatively the same. We have rules in place to do this in every area except the turbo charger. The turbo rule as it was written has failed miserably. A box 3lm turbo, this can be anything from a true box charger to the best one money can buy. As long as it has a 2.4 inlet and certain numbers on the housings, it is legal. At  the meeting there was discussion about the reliability of a 3lm turbo with many different opinions. One group said their turbo has over 100 passes on it with no trouble. Another person said they have repaired or replaced theirs 6 times over just 2 seasons. I personally have the same 3lm that I started with 4 years ago with no trouble at all. A turbo charger is like any other piece of equipment, you push it hard enough or to far past what it is intended to do it will fail. Some wanted to go back to a true 3lm 466 box charger, the majority of the class wanted no part of this. We voted to leave the turbo rule as it was and this did not pass. Others wanted to change to a different, possibly more reliable charger, maybe it is maybe not, hard to say without having some experience running it with tractors set up like ours. Either way we would have more than likely ended up with the same type of turbo rule, some buying a box charger some buying the best charger that money can buy that does come in a box. Is this what's best for the class? I was the first to bring up just using a 2.4 inlet for the turbo rule. The reason I brought this up is because I felt we were headed down the same road ,the only difference being a different charger sure to make the better tractor even farther ahead. Although a version of this passed this is not the answer and will only separate the tractors even more. So, here we are still needing a speed limit to hold the tractors in check to keep it competitive. There is only one way to eliminate the speed limit and that's to make all tractors use the same exact model turbo charger. A true box 3lm 466 turbo is as good a choice as any and the least expensive. Yes, the better tractors will still lead the class but it will make it more competitive.

I have been to most of the hot farm rules meetings and a couple of the pro farm meetings. I think the pullers should have input on the rules, but now more than ever I am convinced the pullers cannot do what is best for the entire class. Its time Dragon Motor Sports make the rules for this class and we, the pullers abide by those rules or go pull somewhere else. Please consider correcting these rules before this class gets totally out of control.

We opened the meeting to have a good open discussion and tell us what you want and how you feel. The speed limit of 17 or any speed limit was disliked by the most of the class. Some felt that  the turbo rule and speed limit needed to work hand in hand. Set a "out of the Box" turbo rule and do away with the speed limit. We all know, if you like it or not, you can not have a out of the box turbo ruling without a buyout rule. The turbo people I have talked to will build me a out of the box 3lm 466 with a 2.4 inlet that starts at $450 to a $900 or even higher. This is what has happened now. So, where do you limit that. You can't. I feel that the turbo rule should stay like it is and move the speed limit to 18.5. Just to see how this will bring the class closer. Who are we trying to bring closer? I know it will not help the 8th tractor place and down. We all would like to see a close range from the top five every week and I think it can happen. Temple and I have gotten calls and concerns about if this rule stands from the last meeting, what about the safety equipment. We both need to have a safe event that protects everyone that is at the pull. With this in mind it open our eyes to have to set a Safety Rule that would make even more cost to the puller. That is not what I want to do. A FINAL ruling will be made this weekend on the rules for the hot farm class for the 2014 season.

I think there should be two classes.1 class stock out of the box 3lm with a buyout .No intercoolers ,no cut tires ,no speed limit .Stock fuel pump. The other class out of the box S300 with a buyout intercoolers ,cut tires ,no speed limit 11000 pounds. Allen

John and I don't even agree on everything We want what is in the best interest of the class. Some good suggestions Allen. I don't like the speed limit period. Something to keep in mind is that the dominant tractor in the Hot Farm class this year was mostly in the 15mph range???

    Two classes:
Altered Farm: 13500 466, 3lm 2.33 stock charger with a $650 buyback, no intercooler,no cut tires, stock appearing pump,no speed limit.
Hot Farm: 12000lbs, 466ci, s300 2.4 box turbo 1500 buyback, intercooler allowed, top cut tires,no water or accelerants.

Note: the buybacks are in the $200 range higher than actual cost, but if you want someones turbo you need to think about it and I think the extra Will help that.

Mark at Superior Diesel has a quality turbo as well. You could actually use his 3lm as a club charger and purchase them through DMP.

    Just some suggestions,

We feel that if there is 2 classes everyone in both classes should use it's same stock out of the box charger. With a buy out of "hand me a new charger" instead of any certain amount of $. Question #2 if there is a new class, will the rules be where anyone can run in it?
