South Boston Speedway...Saturday, SATURday, SATURDAY! What a hot humid night for pulling. The Rice family and the Halifax crew welcomed Dragon Motorsports and The Hammer. This location is growing and getting better. A few more light banks, a nice announcer’s booth, and better sound setup and we are talking about a nice facility in the making. This was worth the trip down.

Sixty Two National Four Wheeled Drives up first and leave it to Bunky Davis to evaluate, feel, and measure up the track. He spent off and on 60 minutes of walking for 30 seconds of success. It worked! He put 15 feet on the competition with a run og 321.27. Ben Ellis Jr. taking the two spot with a fine run of 306.44. Shane Hanks is getting cozy with that three spot. His third on the year with Dragon. Shane ran a 294.61 to edge Randy Brann by about 3/10 of an inch.

6200 Outlaw 4x4 saw Brandon Culliton run a 305.45 in his BC Fab Bad Mannerz 4x4. Steve Simmons started the class out and dropped a 311.45. Steve couldn't get hooked up on his second hook. That is the option you get and you play the hand that you think gives you the best advantage. Steve will be back, no doubt about that. David Hall did some full time driving on his Part Time Hooker. David drove a strong 299.37 slinging dirt all over the crowd. Delton Stallings rounded out the top three with a good run of 294.23.

8050 RWB Diesel 4x4. Me, "Jevon, you together?" Jevon, "Kind of. I noticed a hairline crack in the block between 6 and 5" Well Jevon was waiting for the other shoe to drop and it did. Not the big noisy break, but the, "Hey dude I only got second" and stalled out kind of run. He managed to go about 335.00 to get the second spot. Wade Boice took the third spot with a good run of 315.75. Ok, now on the big winner tonight, Bob Martin was working feverishly in the pits in the rear of the truck and it worked. He got that joker hooked up and put it way out of the gate. He topped Jevon by .89 with a 335.89. Congratulation Bob! That ain't the same truck we saw last year at the Showdown.

78 Hundred Light Pro Stock Tractors. Seven in the class, and our Points Leaders was out doing something or another, and Roger filled in making some curvy letters in the dirt. I think it read "R-O-G-er" by the time he was done. But, hey he did all that and still ran a 305.99. Paul Martin in the seat of that bad IH966 and ran a 309.37. I mean he couldn't let Bob take three top-three spots on the night, could he? 2013 Dragon Points Champion, Paul Schrock taking home the two spot with a fine pass of 309.66. The winner for this class, Steve Flint on his Case IH MX 285 "Headcase". Steve took the business as usual approach to his run. It was a very clean and very strong run of 314.47. Anything over 310 on the night seemed strong as this was a good track. That combined with last week and Steve is right there in second for the Points Championship. Congrats Steve.

Host Class, Twelve Thousand Hot Farm, 7 tractors in the class. Billy Rice! What an outstanding pull and what a run to take your class. Billy ran a 309.97. Kenny Sandrige did a great job taking the second spot with a good run of 298.00. Bob Martin took the three spot and a sweet drive back to Farmville. Bob took the Hammer some 297.60 feet from the starting line. Larry Moon got a huge roar from the crowd that looked to be 1500-2000 or so. Must have been wearing a "Lights Out" shirt or something. The crowd cheered Larry to a distance of 255.75.

Good night once it cooled off a bit. Good pull.

The weather worked in favor in the third attempt at Berryville. After working the track for hours it was paid off to produce a power house track. When you take 19 trucks in the 6400 Pro Street and just one or two trucks spin out, thats a power track. What ever you had under the hood, you could not leave any of it to spare. Being the fastest the Hammer has been on speed at 31 mph, Benjamin was on rails. You might think he got out of it at the end of the track because of the distance but no. It was getting ready to hop and Ben pulled the throttle back.
Gerry Young taking home the top spot in the 6400 class with Jerry Smith second with 2 1/2 feet between them. Jeff and Rose Jenkins bring the Ford power house to be third and fourth just to be one tenth of an inch behind Jerry and only 5 tenths between the fords. Kevin Schools to round out the top five in the class.

Wesley Keys keeps it alive and stays in the top spot on the track and in the points in the 6250 Mod. 4x4 class. Show time driver Blake Hawkins in the second spot. Michael Garrett third, William Bennett fourth and Donald Mongold fifth. 11 trucks in the class.

10 trucks in the 6200 National 4x4 trucks. Ben Ellis on the Benjamin taking home with the win with 17 feet to spare. Mike Omps on the Green Machine being second. Leroy Booth in the seat of Fare Game third. Might have had a little more but the truck went into a crab looking for traction while making a turn to the right at the end of the run to put all of the sled pressure on the left rear tire to have blow out. Woody Campbell in the fourth spot and Brian Cubbage to be fifth.

E L Harlow shows the power and spins out at the end of the run to be first in the 10,000 Super Pro farm tractor class. Bill Catlett on the IH to be second. Things are working for this tractor. Chad Nesselrodt having the first hook with a 297.20 and rehook with a 296.96 to be third. Duane Sours in the seat of Adam Richie's tractor. Having a fuel system problem puts him fourth out of four.

Madison Recap.

40 years of the Madison County Young Farmers tractor pull.

Todd Tanner starting the night with the same tractor making the first pull of the night just like he did 40 years ago. Pulling a Farmall Super H. What a wonderful night we had in Madison looking back thru the years of pulling.

Having his first win in the 12,000 Altered Farm class was Wayne Balderson on the 786 IH. Bob Chambers second and Bobby Chambers third.
It is awesome when hobbies, horsepower, and livelihood intersect with benefitting those in need. And that was the Culpeper Benefit Truck and Tractor Pull. Candidate Savannah Corbin made a wonderful speech to the Culpeper crowd. She is a really sweet girl.

Got off to a late start getting the track all set and ready to go. 10,000 Hot Farms up first on the night and it was Billy Rice taking home the top spot and trophy with a monstrous pass of 343 and 82. Daniel Burner laying down his own fine run of 337.86. Bill Catlett wanting in on the fun with a strong run of 326 even.

6250 Mod Street. Wesley Keys back on the top spot with a run of 318.75 and Brad Broy in third with a run of 311.65. I can see these guys flipping back and forth all season long for that coveted season championship. Robert Brown bringing out the Bubba Rat and splitting Keys and Broy for the second spot with a pass of 313.44.
Simmons Motorsports took home the 6200 Outlaw class with Steve taking Still Grumpy some 301 and 22 from the starting line for the first Simmons trophy. Dwayne Griffith lit the crowd up with his pass of 295.08 and Thomas Alton rounding out the top three with a good run of 290.94. The only hiccup seemed to be Brandon Culliton going 260.16. We know Bad Mannerz can lay down good runs. Let’s hope he can find his form.

The Sixty Four Hundred Pro Stock 4x4 class featured 20 hooks. Kevin Schools started off the class with a run of 319.54. He dropped that to come back and run 313.54. Sometimes turning down the first hook can benefit you, sometimes it can hurt you. In this case, it dropped Kevin to the third spot behind Gerry Young with his pass of 314.55. The Simmons tribe rejoiced with another good run out of their camp. Bob took the Foolish Habit 318.55 down the track for their second number one on the night.

10,000 Super Pro Farm saw 5 tractors. With E L Harlow walking a mile in his “Hillbilly Shoes” to a concert, Thurmon Mumford got some seat time on the Harlow Harvester, and man did he utilize that time. He drove the Harvester 329 and 68. Adam Richie put the Pops Blue Ribbon on the two spot with a run or 318.16. Chad ran a 315.90 on his second pass. His first pass 316.93, so no harm in the drop. Mike Ricketts came across the water to lay down a good run of 299.57. Todd Tanner came back to give us the 5th tractor in the class. He laid down a run of 273.34. Word around the track is that Thurmon is almost back together and should be ready for Orange.

I will be taking a few weeks for some much needed R & R. I will rejoining you all in Berryville and Madison. I will be posting a ton of videos on YouTube. Pulls in their entirety. I will also be in video editing mode of recent pulls for DVD orders.

I have posted the DMP points classes on the results page.

We could not have asked for any better weather, pullers and spectators and our event sponsor, James River Equipment. When it is at 80-85, that is what make horsepower.

20 trucks in the 6400 class. When we have numbers drop in other classes, 6400 sure come out to play. Gerry Young was the first hook and ran a 307.90. Dropping this hook and the sled set he came back to place 6 feet better on his second hook. Playing the waiting game until Kevin Schools having a full pull of 322.22. This truck has seemed to pick up some HP over the winter. The last two pulls this truck has been on the top spot. Frankie Parker falling into the same tracks end up in the third spot. Brad Diggs having his hook in the middle of the class to be fourth and Jerry Smith just two hooks ahead of Kevin to place fifth.

Well short of the 7800 tractors. I was hoping to see more at this event. Josh Sims on his first hook of the season takes home the win. Roger Collier in the seat of Adams tractor to be second and Parran Bean on the third spot. In the next events to come we will look at a floating finish in these classes that have less than 6 in the class.

10 in the 6200 National 4x4 truck class. Having a three way pull off in the class. Ben Ellis takes home the win with a super run both times. What ever he has done, IT has worked. Just as smooth like you would want it. Jim Wiker in the second spot and Troy Nails third dropping out in the pull off with finding metal in the oil filter. Randy Brann with his new truck has placed well in the last couple of hooks. Here with DMP and with the NTPA UPOC. Shane Hanks with the GroundHog out for his first ride and placed eighth.

Wesley Keys keeping the front runner in the points with the Black Ice. Blake hawkins second with a pull off between these trucks. Brad Broy on the third spot With Donald Mongold fourth and William Bennett fifth out of 10 trucks in the class.

5 tractors in the 7500 Modified Modified Tractors. Randy Davis on the Running Bear with a powerful run to be first in the class. Brandon Budd not wasting any nights to be second. Don Deane on the Plumbers Nightmare to be third. Having 3 T-64 turbines on his ride. Phillip Jones in the fourth spot and Len Brookhart with never seen before radial engine tractor. This tractor is the only one around, I mean in this country. 18 cylinder air craft engine. I don't know anymore on the engine to explain better.

Steve Willson with the last hook in the 6200 TWD trucks to place first. Brandon Lee in the second spot and Boss Hog driven by Jeff Eshelman third. Both Sabrina Reed on the Mischief Maker and Beanie Branson on the Party Time having a high ride. Beanie having the engine coming to a stop while in the air and slamming hard to the ground.
